Social Studies
Grade 3 study on Ancient Egypt which included a project based learning portion where students were challenged to create an exhibit on a topic about Ancient Egypt for the whole school to learn from. Grade 3 students interviewed grade 1 and 4 students to understand how to create an exhibit that would help a grade 1 student learn and a grade 4 student learn. Students made a plan with their group, requested materials, and built their exhibits. They had to work in groups and 'pivot' when their plan wasn't working. Students made artefacts for their exhibits and decided how their 'room' of the museum would look. Below are some photos from our open Museum, which the majority of the school attended.
Below is a social studies lesson plan I did for my 4th grade class when we were exploring the provinces of Canada. The integration of social studies and language arts outcomes is evident in the lesson plan, which I believe is effective in teaching and using more skills to encourage learning.
I created the social studies unit plan below about New Brunswick for Grade 3 with my colleague at St. Thomas University. The unit plan exemplifies my ability to plan for Social Studies instruction in addition to how I am able to integrate social studies and literacy together.
