Guided Math
I started using Guided Math in my Grade 2 classroom to meet all the needs of my students. It proved to be very successful with my students and they enjoyed 'doing' math because they were being challenged at their ability level. The lesson below shows my ability to effectively differentiate within a class with varying ability levels. It also demonstrates my ability to facilitate learning while also practicing skills already taught, which is shown with the patterning center.
Below is a math lesson I created for my fourth grade class as an introduction to geometry, which allowed the students to explore and discover the concepts of geometry. I believe this lesson and the photos below show my ability to engage students in math in a discovery based manner. The different stations range from tactile handling of the shapes to recording their observations, which demonstrates my ability to include learners of multiple intelligence and cover a variety of geometry concepts in a single lesson.
A math lesson I created for my second grade class on adding 2 digit numbers, which demonstrates my ability to create lessons that are age appropriate in addition to incorporating movement into the learning of math. The use of physically kicking a 'ball' and then measuring the distance and recording the outcome utilizes multiple skills in one lesson. The students computed their scores recording the best sum.
